The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a notice indicating it will be adding enhanced functionality to its Medicare Secondary Payer Recovery Portal (MSPRP). Starting July 13, 2020, authorized MSPRP users will be allowed to view and print CMS conditional payment correspondence.
CMS’s notice states, in full, as follows:
On July 13, 2020, the MSPRP is scheduled to be enhanced to allow authorized users to view and print correspondence via new functionality. MSPRP users who log in using Multi-Factor Authentication will be able to view and print CMS mailed correspondence displayed on the Letter Activity tab. Additional information on how to use this new functionality will be available in Section 14.1.1.4 of the July version of the MSPRP User Guide.
As will be noted, CMS’s notice does not provide much by way of specifics, and the agency plans to provide additional information in its forthcoming July version of the MSPRP User Guide. Thus, we will need to await further updates to see exactly how the functionality will work. On this note, it will be interesting to see if this upcoming enhancement will allow authorized users to download copies of Medicare correspondence listed on the “Letter Activity” tab of the portal, such as conditional payment notices, demands, intent to refer letters, etc. Assuming functionality would be extended in this manner, this would be an expansion from the current, limited, ability to generate and download an electronic conditional payment letter (eCPL) in some cases. Again, we will need to wait until CMS releases its updated MSPRP User Guide to learn the exact nature of CMS’s forthcoming enhancements.
ISO CP is monitoring this development and will provide future updates once we receive additional information. In the interim, please do not hesitate to contact the author if you have any questions.
