JERSEY CITY, N.J., May 16, 2012 — CargoNet, a leading source of information about supply chain risk, today announced that it has formed an alliance with the Virginia Carolinas Cargo Security Council (VCCSC) to help VCCSC’s members combat the growing problem of cargo theft across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. CargoNet is a division of the Verisk Crime Analytics unit at Verisk Analytics (Nasdaq:VRSK).
CargoNet delivers cargo theft prevention, response, and recovery solutions through a secure national cargo crime database and controlled information-sharing network managed by crime analysts and supply chain specialists. The CargoNet solution includes a theft alert system, task force and investigations support, a tractor/trailer theft deterrence program, driver education and incentives, secondary-market monitoring and interdictions, crime trend analysis, loss control services, and security awareness education.
“We applaud the VCCSC for its leadership in the fight against cargo theft,” said Anthony Canale, general manager for CargoNet. “This alliance is a perfect example of how security councils and the private sector can work together to share intelligence, which is critical in the fight against cargo thieves.”
Through the alliance, cargo theft incidents reported to the VCCSC by its members will be transmitted directly to the CargoNet operations center, which will notify the correct law enforcement agencies on a local, regional, and national level. VCCSC members will also receive special member pricing for CargoNet membership.
“This newly established alliance will strengthen our increased criminal interdiction efforts throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia,” added Torry Shealy, VCCSC Steering Committee member. “With the capabilities of CargoNet’s alerting infrastructure, the VCCSC is able to offer its members an additional layer of recovery support in the event that they are victims of cargo theft.”
