NEW YORK, July 24, 2000 — Insurance Services Office, Inc.'s (ISO) A Half Century of Hurricane Experience: What Insurers Have Learned, What the Insurance Industry is Doing is a handy reference you will find helpful in your coverage of hurricanes. The ISO compilation provides hurricane-loss statistics and facts over the past 50 years. The hurricane season began on June 1 and lasts through November.

Tens of millions of coastal residents in Florida, Louisiana, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Long Island (N. Y.), and New England are most vulnerable to punishing storms until November. Weather experts forecast 11 tropical storms, seven of which may be hurricanes — and three of those seven could be very extremely severe.
