JERSEY CITY, N.J., December 9, 2009 — ISO Commercial Lines and Modeling Vice President Beth Fitzgerald has been elected to the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning in November 2009. ISO Vice President John Kollar, who served as CAS president the past year, now assumes the role of chairman.
The purposes of the Casualty Actuarial Society are to advance the body of knowledge of actuarial science applied to property, casualty, and similar risk exposures; to establish and maintain standards of qualification for membership; to promote and maintain high standards of conduct and competence for the members; and to increase the awareness of actuarial science.
Kollar is vice president of the ISO department that develops ISO’s insurance programs for personal lines, rating plans for commercial lines, and increased limits factor tables for all lines of insurance. Kollar is also involved in ISO’s initiatives on emerging issues and enterprise risk management (ERM).
As chairman of the CAS, Kollar is focusing on activities designed to move the CAS forward as it approaches its 100th anniversary in 2014. He recently signed a multilateral treaty that launched a global risk management credential, CERA (the Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst), to address the need for highly qualified risk professionals globally, especially in the financial sector.
He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS), a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), and a charter member of Risk Who’s Who (RWW). Along with his service as chairman of the CAS, Kollar is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Actuaries and the Enterprise Risk Management Institute International (ERM-II).
Fitzgerald is responsible for ISO’s insurance lines services for commercial auto, general liability, commercial fire and allied lines, and specialty commercial lines, including businessowners, management liability, and crime. She also leads an ISO division focusing on predictive modeling to produce and support sophisticated analytic solutions that meet insurers’ decision-support needs and refine current procedures.
A Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), a Fellow of the CAS (FCAS), and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA), Fitzgerald earned her CPCU designation in 2008. In 2010, she will become chairperson of the Actuarial Standards Board’s Casualty Committee.
Her additional professional accomplishments include serving as vice president of professional education for the CAS Executive Council from 2004 to 2006, general officer of the CAS Examination Committee from 1996 to 2000, and assistant secretary of the CAS Executive Council from 1999 to 2000.
