NEW YORK, July 13, 1999 – Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) has added catastrophe information from its Property Claim Services (PCS) unit to ISOnet®, ISO's Internet delivery system.
PCS customers can now access Daily Severe Weather Summaries, Catastrophe Bulletins, and Tropical Storm/Hurricane Advisories through ISOnet.
"Insurers and others affected by catastrophic events in the United States have a critical need to get authoritative PCS catastrophe information as quickly as possible," said Donald J. Rainone, ISO's executive vice president for marketing and strategic planning. "Immediate access to PCS information will allow insurers to better allocate claims resources and process catastrophe-related claims more efficiently."
PCS catastrophe information now available on ISOnet includes:
- Daily Severe Weather Summaries – a daily recap of severe weather events across the United States that cause significant insured property damage. Each daily report lists the areas affected by severe weather and a description of the weather events.
- Catastrophe Bulletins – critical information on PCS-designated catastrophes – events that cause $25 million or more in total insured property losses, and that affect a significant number of property and casualty insurers and policyholders. Bulletins include information on the perils causing damage and the states affected. Property damage estimates are also provided, including state-by-state reports of the number of claims, average payment, and total dollars paid for personal, commercial, and automobile losses.
- Tropical Storm/Hurricane Advisories – the latest information on active tropical storms and hurricanes from the National Hurricane Center.
With real-time access to ISOnet, PCS customers can easily find and use current and historical PCS catastrophe and weather-related information. ISOnet allows users to easily view, print, and download that information at their personal computers.
Since ISO launched ISOnet last year, the secure, password-protected website has efficiently delivered ISO's core information services to more than 200 insurance industry customers. More than 4,000 individual users regularly access ISOnet through a standard Internet connection.
For 50 years, PCS has been a source of information, training, and services for handling claims that result from catastrophes. PCS is recognized around the world as the property/casualty insurance industry's authority on catastrophic events in the United States. PCS information is used primarily as a benchmark for internal company damage estimates in setting loss reserves and as a guide in deploying claims adjusters.
