JERSEY CITY, N.J., December 3, 2014 — ISO has developed two new coverage options to help businesses when government authorities take steps to control the spread of Ebola. ISO is a Verisk Analytics (Nasdaq:VRSK) business.
The first endorsement offers coverage for the loss of income a business faces when it follows orders to close during an Ebola outbreak. The second endorsement responds if the government suspends public bus, rail, or ferry lines. Both options are designed to complement ISO’s commercial property program and are subject to an annual aggregate. They can also provide coverage when an order to close disrupts a company’s supply chain.
As the Ebola situation evolves both here and abroad, ISO is making forms available for review now. Insurers who choose to offer the endorsements in the admitted market will need to make appropriate regulatory filings on their own.
“An Ebola outbreak could push authorities to make difficult decisions to keep people safe,” said Beth Fitzgerald, president of ISO Insurance Programs and Analytic Services. “These optional endorsements could help businesses financially if authorities were to order them to close.”
ISO regularly provides insurers with research and insight on a wide range of risks — including Ebola — through discussions among professionals on its Emerging Issues Panel. “The world of risk is changing daily,” said Fitzgerald. “At ISO, we’re committed to keeping insurers informed about emerging risks and to developing products and services they need to succeed.”
Insurers participating in ISO’s commercial property program can access the optional endorsements here or by calling Customer Support at 1-800-888-4476.
