MSDgen 6.50 Also Features New LABELgenerator Module and Data Migration Tools
Carlsbad, Calif., June 14, 2012 — 3E Company, a leading provider of EH&S compliance and information management services, today announced significant enhancements to its MSDgen® Safety Data Sheet (SDS) authoring system. The new version, MSDgen 6.50, is the first authoring platform to support the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) 2012, which now aligns with the United Nations’ (UN) Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). When combined with MSDgen 6.50’s new label generation and data migration tools, these features significantly streamline the process of developing accurate and compliant hazard communication documentation for the latest global regulatory requirements.
Support for US OSHA’s GHS Adaptation, Hazard Communication Standard 2012
The promulgation of HCS 2012 deeply impacts hazard communication initiatives around the globe and requires the re-authoring of many SDSs and labels to conform to the new guidelines. MSDgen 6.50 streamlines the re-authoring process by helping generate SDS and label documents that conform to HCS 2012. MSDgen 6.50 supports OSHA adopted building blocks — or GHS classification and communication requirements — as well as automatic classification and application of labeling elements for new hazards, including combustible dust, simple asphyxiant, pyrophoric gas, static accumulating flammable liquid, and substances and mixtures which, in contact with water, emit toxic gases.
Innovative New Tools for Label Generation and Data Migration
With the release of MSDgen 6.50, 3E Company provides two new modules: LABELgenerator, a new web-based tool for the selection and generation of labels at the facility level, and DMgen, a flexible data migration tool that transfers data from external systems into MSDgen.
Enhanced Integration with 3E Online-MSDS®
3E has made additional enhancements to streamline the integration between MSDgen and the company’s 3E Online-MSDS SDS management platform, enabling the two products to serve together as a comprehensive regulatory compliance and chemical management solution. Users can now seamlessly upload data and documents from MSDgen to 3E Online as part of the document finalization process within MSDgen. Users can also import data and documents from 3E Online into MSDgen. This function is especially helpful for downloading raw material data into MSDgen for authoring purposes.
Expanded Rules Generation
MSDgen’s rules generation engine has been completely redesigned for improved performance. The engine, which performs the automatic authoring of material level SDSs and label data, has been transferred into the database to take advantage of MSDgen’s highly optimized servers. The enhancement increases user productivity because the rules engine that performs the automatic glossary assignment process is faster than previous versions.
“OSHA’s adaptation of GHS brings incredible complexities to the world of hazard communication requirements for U.S. enterprises. Our global team of specialized experts has developed a new SDS U.S. document template, as well as the unique calculation, disclosure, and phrase assignment logic required for this new GHS authority,” said Clark VanScoder, vice president, MSDgen Operations, 3E Company. “With MSDgen 6.50, we’ve seamlessly integrated support for HSC 2012 into the system, building on our support for numerous other GHS authorities. Re-authoring SDSs and labels to conform to this new HCS 2012 can be a time intensive and expensive process. Access to a robust SDS authoring tool such as MSDgen 6.50 will provide users with the solution they need to efficiently and effectively author compliant hazard communication documents.”
MSDgen 6.50 is available immediately.
