Samuel G. Liss has been one of Verisk’s directors since 2005. He brings to Verisk decades of management and operational experience as a senior executive of a global insurance business, expertise in investment banking and capital markets, and public company board governance experience.
Mr. Liss is the principal of WhiteGate Partners LLC, an advisory firm to the financial and business services sector. He’s also an adjunct professor at the New York University Stern School of Business and Columbia Law School, teaching courses on corporate governance.
Mr. Liss was executive vice president at The Travelers Companies, overseeing corporate business development, and group business head of its Financial, Professional, and International Insurance business segment.
Before that, he was a managing director in the Financial Institutions Investment Banking and Equities divisions at Credit Suisse, focusing on diversified financial and business services companies. He began his career at Salomon Brothers.
Mr. Liss holds an MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business, pursued graduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and holds a BA from Wesleyan University.
Mr. Liss is on the Board of Directors of Argo Group International and JS Held. He previously served on the boards of DST Systems Inc, Ironshore Insurance, and Nuveen Investments, as well as UJA Federation, a major philanthropy.
