JERSEY CITY, N.J., March 26, 2013 — Verisk Crime Analytics announced today an agreement between its CargoNet® division and the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) to help TIA members reduce cargo theft risk. Verisk Crime Analytics is a unit of Verisk Analytics (Nasdaq:VRSK).
CargoNet will assist TIA in collecting and analyzing identity and cargo theft events. Special member pricing will be available to TIA members that wish to use CargoNet to reduce the economic impact of cargo crime and use CargoNet recovery, deterrence, and analytical services as part of the value they offer to their clients.
“Since its launch in 2010, CargoNet has made huge strides in helping the transportation industry become better at developing cargo crime intelligence,” said TIA president and CEO Robert Voltmann. “The secure nature of the CargoNet system gives our members, their service providers, and their clients the necessary peace of mind to share data. That’s a critical component of combating cargo crime. We strongly encourage our members to learn more about CargoNet, because if more people use the system, the better it is for all of us.”
CargoNet is centered on a national database and information-sharing system managed by crime analysts and subject matter experts. By providing recovery support, deterrence measures, and coordinated, real-time communications between theft victims and law enforcement agents, CargoNet helps its members prevent cargo theft and improve chances of recovery.
“Our strategic alliance with the Transportation Intermediaries Association allows us to extend the reach and value of CargoNet for brokers, transportation companies, and their insurers. TIA has taken a stand against cargo crime, and we’re proud to support that effort,” added Anthony Canale, vice president of Verisk Crime Analytics. “We’re optimistic that the increased awareness and sharing of data by TIA members will further the goals of law enforcement and the industry to reduce cargo theft.”
